I organized this hike with the DAAD scholars and David as a way to ease more people into hiking, as many participants from before have finished their studies and left Germany. We started off pretty rough with getting stuck on the way because of a tree that had fallen on the road. Luckily, the fire brigade was already there to clean up the mess, so we could continue our way. Still, David got confused, left the bus one stop earlier and had to catch up to us.

As we started walking up the hill, we were greeted with the fog and/or clouds covering the mountain. It was a bit chilly in some places, hot in others, but nothing too distracting. Eventually we climbed out of the fog and were greeted with a beautiful view of the mountains and the valley below in the direction of Garmisch.

We kept going, making breaks to take pictures and let other hikers through until we reached the first summit, Schartenkopf (1636 m). There we made a longer lunch break in case the Alpine hut was closed. It was very sunny and the view above the clouds was breathtaking. We could see the Zugspitze (2962 m) and the Alps in the distance. We took a lot of pictures and enjoyed the view.

After a while, we kept going to Laber Hauptgipfel (1686 m), which apparently didn't have a cross despite being the main summit. Nobody was disappointed though, because we were on the way to a beer garden which may have been open. To our amusement, the beer garden was indeed open, so we had a drink there too. I also tried the main attraction of the place, the Alpine ice cream, which was delicious and I recommend it to everyone. As we were sitting there, the rising clouds finally caught up to us, and we were surrounded by fog again.

We took the way down to the valley, covered with many flowers, including Soldanellas. As we left the mountain, the exciting part of the hike finished and the rest of the way was just a walk down and through the city towards the train station.

In conclusion, it was an easy and nice hike, perfect for sporty beginners. The route is pretty safe for most of the year and some steeper parts are secured with a metal rope for those who need it. The view towards the Zugspitze (2962 m) and the Alps is great and the ice cream in the beer garden is a must-try.
