Liliia from the DAAD FK suggested to go on an easy hike near the mountains given the weather was good. After the hike to Auerspitz (1811 m) I wanted something easier and gladly joined.

The trip started in Krün, where we got by bus from Kochel. The weather was just right, making it a comfortable walk. By the time we got to Barmsee, we walked past tons of other people of all ages walking by, many with dogs. Liliia didn't take her corgi along, since the poor thing gets anxious in buses and trains crowded with people.

We then walked over to Geroldsee and to the village of Gerold itself. As the path to the meadows opened, we saw a great view of Zugspitze (2962 m) and the surrounding mountains. We had a picnic there, enjoying the view, then started to loop back to the starting point.

On the way back we walked past a railway to Klais, but there were no buses any time soon, so we headed into the forest to fast-track towards Krün. When we reached Grubsee, we saw a bunch of parked rowboats and a paid entry to the water. On the internet, it is advertised as a swimming lake, so I guess there's a well-kept beach during summer.

Finally, when we got most of the way through and walked past the Barmsee hotel, we caught a bus that took us the rest of the way, then swapped to the bus back in the direction of Kochel.

All in all, this is a good beginner hike for people of all ages, with views of Mittenwald and Garmisch mountains. Definitely worth checking out outside of the hot season.
